  • OSRAM managing board meets Chinese minister Wan Gang

Posted on December 7th, 2011 admin No comments

During his visit to the Bavarian state capital Munich, the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Wan Gang met the managing board of OSRAM AG. The discussions focused above all on questions concerning closer cooperation in the field of light-emitting diodes, in short LED. The chairman of the managing board at OSRAM AG, Wolfgang Dehen, emphasized: “The discussions were of enormous importance to us notably with a view to the great significance of the Chinese lighting market.”

Following its inspection of a pioneering OSRAM test installation for LED applications in an art collection in Munich, the Chinese delegation met OSRAM’s managing board. The discussions concentrated primarily on future areas of cooperation in the LED sector.

OSRAM has been represented for some 80 years with its products in China and today covers the entire value chain there. In total, OSRAM employs more than 10,000 staff in the fast-growing Chinese market. According to a survey conducted by the management consultancy McKinsey, the Chinese lighting market is set to double in value by 2020 from its current level of more than 8 billion euros.

  • Everlight Shows Its LED Lighting Brand in Hong Kong

  • The Louvre Receives LED Lighting Retrofit

Posted on December 6th, 2011 admin No comments

    LED lights

As far as beautiful places go, the Louvre art museum is already a bright spot on the map. And thanks to LED lighting, it looks like this centuries-old Parisian landmark is about to get even brighter. The iconic building, which houses such important art works as the Mona Lisa and the Nike of Samothrace (along with more than 380,000 objects and 35,000 works of art) is shedding its costly xenon lighting and replacing it with LED light fixtures from Toshiba. It looks like the LED lighting retrofit will mainly take place on the outside of the building at first, where outdoor LED lighting fixtures will be installed in the Pavillon Colbert as well as I.M. Pei’s glass pyramid. The lights will be illuminated during an inaugural ceremony that takes place tomorrow, December 6th. The retrofit comes partly in response to a gradual phasing out of incandescent and halogen bulbs in the European Union, which started in 2009. According to Smart Planet, “Toshiba proposed the luminous renovations to the Louvre in 2010, vowing to replace the old lighting with environmentally-friendly LED lights.  A total of 3200 LED lights will replace the 4500 xenon bulbs by the time the relighting is finished.  They will cut electricity consumption by 73% from 392,000 watts to 105,000 watts annually.”

As if we didn’t already have reason enough to want to visit the Louvre, this LED lighting overhaul makes it even more appealing, oui?

Thanks to Smart Planet for the image and quote.

  • Grahame Lynch’s “The Logic of Subduction” features LED Strip Lights

Posted on December 1st, 2011 admin No comments

One of our customers, artist, Grahame Lynch, just wrapped up his LED-strip-lit installation “The Logic of Subduction” at the Thames Art Gallery in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. The exhibition will be traveling to the Kennedy Gallery in North Bay, Ontario and also the Esplanade Gallery in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Here is his statement about his show:

Seeing differently is a part of my everyday experience and has influenced the way I communicate as both an artist and a designer. My work is reflective of an often-obsessive desire to look at things in greater detail than I am capable of, and to commit the experience of these details to memory. It references a love of reading, and that the ability to read is the first thing I notice slipping when my vision changes. It alludes to a constant desire to see and explore places that few people have ever been—to trudge over parched terrain or through freezing water to get to places that feel secret, and look at everything with total astonishment—hoping that these are the memories I will keep, even if someday the sense of sight disappears.

Some of my earliest memories are of a world that constantly jittered, of falling down and staring the jitters into submission. Wrapped in these memories are the colour of the walls, the beveled glass in the front door that fragmented the view outside, and a favourite striped shirt that appeared to move on it’s own. When I read, I am reminded of these early memories and of the ways in which the world is constantly shifting. Reading is often a task of chasing words that appear to move from line to line. As fatigue sets in, entire pages tip back and forth erratically—folding in on themselves as I switch from the left eye to right, and back. I sometimes stare and realize that I have no idea what I have just read — breathe deeply, and start over.

My current work is an attempt to solidify this experience; it is both visual and haptic and is spatially oriented in ways that often require the viewer to look and gather, and to piece the fragments together into a poetic sense of the time and place.

For his main piece in the installation, Grahame used our Brighter flexible LED Strip Light in warm white. This piece runs 45 feet, and the lights are controlled by the 150 Watt driver and inline dimmer.  Grahame says, “In the next installation the tables in the middle of the gallery will also be backlit with the flexible strip lighting, but this time getting power to them was a bit of a problem. The piece was designed to accommodate either situation.” He also complimented our team, “Thanks for shipping out the replacement roll so quickly! It got here just in time to finish up the installation.”

Thank you Grahame for sharing your work with us. If you would like to feature your project using our LED lights, contact us at answers@elementalled.com.

  • India800 Foundation Brings Solar LED Lamps To 50 Dark Villages

Posted on November 28th, 2011 admin No comments

India800 Foundation, an organisation which works for people living below poverty line ,has supported solar LED lamps for over 50 backward villages that do not have electricity.

The villages would be among 120 villages that would be covered under the project in the country. This was announced by Lord Amir Bhatia, House of Lords, England and vice-chairman of the India800 foundation.

Hanul Technologies is installing over 5,000 LED Lights developed by thepany at BMC Software which will bring savings of around 575 mega watts hours per year for the BMC. BMC would invest the saved money to fund the projects for installation of Solar Powered LED Lighting System in small villages.

They have alraedy installed solar LED lamps in Sakur in Ahmednagar district.

“In Sakur, we have installed solar powered lighting system in each house and on streets. All this was done with the savings that we managed to make on the electricity bills after replacing lighting at our campus with LED Lighting system of Hanul Technologies that helped us to save about 60-65% of the electricity,” said BMC Software site head Tarun Sharma.
